Stone of recognition

The stone of knowledge rests in itself. It does not speak to you, nor does it show any clues that could lead to any knowledge.

Knowledge comes out of yourself. It only comes as a result of your own action. It is an addition of your own experience, your own insights into the things of your own world. Only this knowledge, if you accept it and recognise indicates knowledge to you.

How wonderful is that?

In this film, Philipp Askew and Lydia Walker dance "Surya Namaskar," the salutation to the sun. It's truly impressive what trained bodies can achieve. Pure aesthetics and a completely different kind of Surya Namaskar!

Use your time

When I watch a cat, I wonder if it also practices some kind of time management.

It's equally true for cats and humans: TIME IS THE MOST VALUABLE COMMODITY!

A friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer three months ago. So, what do you do in such a case? What if I only had 3-4 months to live? What if I only had a year left? And what do I do when I know I have 30-40 years left?

Exactly, use your time!

Life is short

Hello dear Terlima friends,

I hope you're all enjoying this wonderful summer with lots of outdoor activities and fun. Yesterday, I attended a typical English garden party at a wonderful old country house surrounded by beautiful nature and a small stream. It couldn't get any better. In a corner of the house, I found the small sign shown here, which I don't want to withhold from you. It says: Life is short—do something illegal sometimes.

The Wheel of Life

The three causes of human suffering are at the centre of the Wheel of Life. It symbolises the serpent of lust, which, in addition to sexual desire, also represents the insatiable craving for possessions, passion, the eternal pursuit of more, and the subsequent realisation that this more ultimately dissolves into nothing.

The rooster represents anger, lack of self-control, and excess. Anyone who follows this path inevitably heads toward damnation.

The pig in the centre of the wheel symbolises the third cause of human suffering. It represents stupidity, ignorance, and, above all, ignorance of the truth.

Summer is approaching

I hope the weather is as fantastic where you are, too: sunshine, mild temperatures, and the longest day of the year is almost here again. You should do something together in nature for the summer solstice on June 21st. Whether it's a long walk, a trip to the sea or the mountains, a trip into the forest, or a bike ride through the flatlands. The main thing is to get some fresh air! By the way, outdoor yoga asanas are a real kick. Try it out!

90 minutes for Fitness

I just came in from a run, and it's amazing and positive to see how many people are doing some kind of sport. The last person I met just outside the front door was a jogger, who said as he rushed off, "You're already done, I still have to go." He must have watched me finish the 90 minutes ;-) In Auetal, there were the usual few dog lovers and three other runners.

In the gymnastics club's stadium, a large group of children with their coaches were completing some kind of fun sports badge. All of them were highly motivated. Of course, my CSI baseball cap caught attention, haha. There were more joggers in the park, and in the soccer club's stadium, a lone female athlete was practising the long jump. I especially enjoy running a lap or two on the soft tartan track here. Yeah, all in all, another great run.

An apple a day ...

... keeps the doctor away.
Dort heißt es eben, "a plum a day ...".

Avoid people who block new initiatives

There's nothing worse for new initiatives than negative people. Unfortunately, these characters are always around us, constantly trying to pass on their "Nelei" (negative attitude to life) to us. I'd say at least half of all contemporaries fall into this category.

So always be careful who you surround yourself with and who influences you. It's best to take stock and draw conclusions if necessary. Negative people have the same influence as sickening TV programs and cheap junk from the print media.

This negativity, which spreads quietly and mainly invisibly like a cancer, is like a disease. Sometimes it's unavoidable to meet these people. In those cases, it's highly advisable not to share ideas with such individuals. They'd only put you down anyway. It's best to wait until results are available. Then suddenly, even these critics will be ready to congratulate you.

The winter fat has to go

This morning, while picking up some bread rolls, four people in particular caught my eye. The first was a young woman in her thirties. A somewhat nasty saying goes, "You can make two out of that." But in this case, three.

And as she wobbled along in front of me, she was constantly pulling on her anorak in her typical way. As if she instinctively wanted to hide her fat behind. The next thing that caught my attention could already be described as an advanced stage.

Around 60 years old, with a crutch on her left side and her legs wrapped open, this poor soul was dragging her shopping trolley behind her with tremendous effort. At a height of about 170 cm, she weighed at least 120 kilos.

What do some people do to themselves? My bakery is in the entrance area of a supermarket. And at one of the checkouts sat a rather young woman who filled the work area in the checkout booth with her bulk. It seemed as if she was supposed to be that fat. Perfectly suited to her workplace.

However, the worst sight for me that morning was a young mother with a stroller. She was more of a Bud Spencer type. And the baby, I guess 6 months old, was sitting happily in the stroller, a water bottle in one hand and a huge roll in the other. Unfortunately, that wasn't baby fat anymore; the poor child was already at least twice as overweight.

What can we learn from this? Exactly. The motto is to get moving and avoid fast food if possible. Spring is here, and the days are longer. Whether it's a stroll or a power walk, the main thing is to get moving!

Tomorrow, tomorrow, not today

There are only a few virtues that, when practised, automatically produce a successful and happy existence. One of these virtues is tackling things immediately instead of putting them off. "Tomorrow, tomorrow, not today, say all lazy people." So goes the well-known saying.

But lazy people never help themselves by simply putting things off. Whether I have to do a job today or sometime later, the work is usually the same. By procrastinating, we only achieve that constant guilty conscience "Oh, there was something important to do..." and sometimes it's even too late to get things sorted out.

Be it the dear tax office, i.e., the tax return, or the long-planned start of a workout. It's often the little things: checking the oil in the car or finally answering that letter sitting on the desk for four weeks. Well, some take the cue from well-known politicians. They simply wait until one problem can be replaced by another. But that doesn't work in real life.

Do it! And do it now!

3 Mar 2010

The main thing is to move.

There are supposedly people who sit on their asses all day long, working during the day and then in the evening, only interrupted by a short car ride, back in front of the TV again. Well, that would be the worst-case scenario. It's unthinkable to help these people get more exercise.

Others think, "I have to do something," but some kind of handicap prevents them from doing it. One doesn't have good running shoes, and another doesn't have a suitable route near their door. Another is embarrassed to go to the gym with all these pounds, but can't jog or swim.

Another can't afford a gym membership, while the male counterpart actually wants to get fit before exercising. A vicious cycle.

Here's a good solution from master Horst Lindenau (Longevity consultant).

Go outside and do some power walking. Just put on something comfortable—shoes suitable for walking are sufficient for starters—and light clothing appropriate for the weather, and off you go.

30 minutes or an hour of brisk walking is enough. And I'm telling you explicitly that you don't need those stupid walking sticks. They're purely fashionable, even if millions of people do it with walking sticks; it's nonsense. Just go and walk as fast as you like and as well as you feel.

Interesting Facts about Yoga

Five Good Reasons for Yoga

Strangely, Yoga is always romanticised. But Yoga is simply the all-encompassing system for body and mind.

Good to know:

1. There are so many Yoga styles, there's something for everyone. From gentle women's groups to powerful women's groups. From renunciation to nude yoga.

2. Yoga is the ideal complement for athletes. There's nothing better.

3. Forget those circus acrobats. Yoga is more than just doing the splits because you were forced to do ballet as a child, and today, therefore, pretend those moves are Yoga.

4. And Yoga is NOT really only for women. Men, join in!

5. And of course, I personally think TerLiMa Yoga is the best. It's very similar to Tantra Yoga.

How time flies

I don't know about you, but time seems slipping through my fingers. We were just sitting under the Christmas tree, shooting rockets into the New Year's sky, and today it's already February again, and spring is upon us. Even if winter still reigns in some parts of the country ;-)

I once wrote that time is God. And that's truly my feeling about time. Everything is connected to it, everything comes and goes. Time is the greatest mystery for me. I encourage, indeed urge, all readers of Longevity Art today to use your time!

Use your life's "time" well and meaningfully. Do what's right for you. Carpe diem! With that in mind, have a wonderful time.

Stone of discipline

When Zen Master Mark Horemans dedicated and opened the Symondsbury Zen Garden on May 28, 1994, I, as the garden's creator, strictly adhered to the traditional guidelines. This meant placing five stones in the garden.

The Stone of Courage, the Stone of Insight, the Stone of Independence, the Stone of Purification, and the Stone of Wisdom.

Five years after I created the Zen garden in southwest England, I spent some time as a travel journalist in Zimbabwe. In the language of the local Shona, Zimbabwe roughly means "stone houses," which was probably influenced by the Matobo landscape. In this magnificent natural setting, the stones don't just lie around; they reside, indeed, they sit enthroned in the landscape.

These stones from Matobo National Park now inspire an insight I've had. Although the meanings of the five stones at Symondsbury Zen Garden correspond to traditional Japanese Zen, today, I'm adding another stone.

The Stone of Discipline!

Nothing works without discipline, and especially in our time, there is a great lack of discipline. This lack must be remedied with the help of TerLiMa and discipline.

Personal responsibility and prevention

True to the motto, you have to feel if you don't want to listen.
Health insurance contributions continue to rise. And that's just the beginning. The end of the line will be:
Old? Poor? Sick? Sorry, no doctor's appointment.

Unfortunately, the insured are only to blame for the crisis and the current situation. Just take the story of M* published here on TerLiMa-news as an example; it says it all.
Only a radical change of course can possibly save some of the good German health insurance system, which is characterised by solidarity and good benefits.

But since the masses are unfortunately too stupid, nothing will come of it. What a shame, really.
TerLiMa consistently advocates personal responsibility and prevention. The only feasible way!

On 115 longevity blog you find clear talk

Today, the media reported that the new German Federal Minister of Health, P. Rößler (FDP), wants to completely reorganize the existing healthcare system in Germany. Of course, he thinks this is a great idea; after all, it's his idea. The opposition calls it treason and predicts a "three-tier healthcare system."

If you look critically at these quarrelers and then at yourself, you quickly realise that the best healthcare starts with yourself. The keyword is PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. And this is lacking among many people who are responsible for the high costs of healthcare, namely smokers and obese people.

I have all the time in the world

"I have all the time in the world." The person who can say that about himself is Horst D. Lindenau (55), founder of the international Terrestrial Life Management (TerLiMa).

TerLiMa News asks: Time, what does that mean to you?

Horst D. Lindenau: Time is God. Probably the only one that exists. Without time, nothing is imaginable for us. Time comes first in everything. And that's precisely why I'm surprised that so little is being done in the world for sensible time management. Is there a renowned chair dedicated solely to time? Today, it's always about being fast and faster.

This madness infects all areas of life. People want to be fast, but punctuality, time resources, and slowing down remain foreign concepts. I remember returning from a six-week tour of Spain 35 years ago. Nobody there wanted to believe me that the trains there were unpunctual. And nowadays, it's also taken hold here.

When I hear that idiotic phrase "academic quarter," that's probably the biggest nonsense. Why can't academics be punctual? Just visit India. The trains run on time there.

TerLiMa News: Why is it even essential to organise your time?

Horst D. Lindenau: We live in an era where we can definitely speak of time affluence.

Bypass surgery was successfully completed

We did it! The first major hurdle has been overcome, and the surgeons are satisfied with the surgery's outcome. Fortunately, only three bypasses had to be performed instead of the expected four.
Of course, complications can also arise after surgery.

Who wants to go to the hospital?

Who wants to go to the hospital? As a patient? Here's the story of a surgery. A man in his 60s goes through the inevitable. He has a total of four bypasses on his heart. And that's how it all began...

M.* was just 14 when he was allowed to smoke a cigarette for the first time, or rather, had to. Because his friends only had one, and of course, you had to be there. It didn't take long before M. stole three cigarettes from his father's cigarette pack. And then, at some point, he spent his first pocket money on his first cigarettes.

M. has actually always smoked since then—never much, as he claims today. But that's familiar. According to smokers, the Federal Ministry of Finance is only supposed to earn five billion euros annually instead of 22 billion. Yes, you read that right. The state earns billions from its citizens' tobacco addiction. Pretty clever—the state, not the smoker.

Back to M., and of course, he also had a grandfather who lived to a ripe old age and always had a cheroot in his mouth. Oh, and Helmut Schmidt** (the poor singer) still smokes, too.

And of course, he only smoked "red hand." It's a matter of honour. Always maintain style. "Oh, he smokes such a strong cigarette, he's a tough guy!" Of course, even stupid people are impressed by such things. Like the Marlboro Cowboy, he always seemed so cool. Until he died of lung cancer, I think at the age of 49. But that's not the point.

M. never had much money in his life, either. But at least enough to pay for his approximately 300,000 cigarettes (in other words, about three hundred thousand cigarettes). With interest, that would be about 100,000 Euros in today's money.

And now, after more than 43 years of smoking, M. is in the cardiac care unit of a hospital, and here at TerLima-news, you'll read how he's coping in the coming weeks.

M* Name withheld
** Helmut Schmidt was once the German Chancellor and today refuses to recognize the Smoking Protection Act

Self-Foot Massage

Massage VI
Everyone knows that our feet can feel a bit stressed or even sore after a long day. A foot massage would be just the thing. And if no one is around to give us the massage, DIY is also a good method.

The feet have many bones and muscles, which can become very tense with heavy use.

But a foot massage can do more than just relax the foot muscles after a long day. Foot reflexology is a form of acupressure in which energy flow is influenced by applying pressure to specific acupuncture points on the feet. The feet are also considered the map of the body. Reflexology zones are located here, which correspond to all other areas of the body via energetic pathways. Pressure on these zones is said to influence the corresponding internal organs, such as the heart, lungs, liver, gallbladder, or lymphatic vessels, and regulate organ function.

Before you begin the massage, we recommend a foot bath in not too hot water. Bath salts can also be added. Then, gently rub your feet with a cloth towel and then massage the top of your foot and toes with your thumb tips. The knuckles are more suitable for working the soles of your feet.

Start on the top of your foot, gently stroking from the ankle to the tips of your toes. Then stroke between the tendons toward the tips of your toes.

Next, massage the sole of your foot. Stroking from the toes to the balls of your feet creates a stimulating effect, while massaging from your feet to the tips of your toes brings relaxation. Circular movements on the heel, middle of your foot, and balls of your feet complete the massage. Apply greater pressure to the heel, and be gentler on the balls of your feet and the middle of your foot. Massage the toes gently and with less pressure.

Pressure-sensitive areas should be massaged very gently at first, using less pressure.

Finally, gently massage the foot toward the tips of your feet. You are also welcome to use massage oil. Enjoy!

Here rest my bones...

...I wish it were yours. This is originally from a German ryhme: Hier ruhen meine Gebeine, ich wollt es waeren deine.

When someone you've known since childhood suddenly dies, it's quite a blow. Something like that happened to me.

This person lived a very extreme life, so it was clear that he wouldn't necessarily reach a biblical age. But to just turn 50 and then suddenly drop dead is shocking, even with the already poor prognosis. Silent in grief. For now.

The Fixer Uppers

While people in Germany are now arguing about who should pay the €14 cost of the ineffective swine flu vaccine, America is facing a real problem. The fat people are now causing costs totalling $147 billion.

Why does a person die?

While browsing the classifieds section of daily newspapers, I noticed that obituaries generally never mention what caused someone's death. The only exceptions are tragic events like accidents or suicide.

But any illnesses that may have killed the deceased aren't even mentioned. Yet mentioning them would be valuable information for readers. They could influence their decisions in one way or another.

Doctors' death certificates clearly confirm the cause: lung cancer, circulatory failure due to obesity, liver cirrhosis, etc. Some people die of the normal infirmity of old age...

TerLiMa Yoga

When I asked my yoga teacher and grandmaster Horst Weiland (*+*) what yoga was, he simply replied, "For example, this piece of chalk," and held out a white piece of chalk.

For novices, yoga is a three-part path to realising one's personal life plan. This tripartite division distinguishes between the physical, mental, and spiritual realms. Within these three paths, there are various paths that can be followed.

But all paths have one ultimate goal: to live one's own life and gain experience. All work always begins with physical yoga, Hatha Yoga. The body is trained to experience the further levels, the mental and spiritual realms.

We find yoga offerings ranging from total renunciation to naked and sweaty yoga. People practice various yoga styles from India to California, from Berlin to Tasmania. I have personally studied Hatha Yoga, Euro Yoga according to Horst Weiland, and Tantra Yoga in particular. I also completed my master's degree in Tantra Yoga in 1996 in Utrecht, Netherlands. From my many international influences and teachings, I then developed the TerLiMa Yoga.

Michael Jackson is dead

Lived, loved, smoked, drank – hoping for a doctor's fix.
With Michael Jackson's passing, we have a perfect example of how not to live one's life. What did the poor soul get out of his life? One can only wish that he were at least happy once. Now he's dead, at 50.

Of course, everyone can do what they want with their lives. Unfortunately, M.J. is no good as an example for others. And I'm not talking about "when I'm old, well, then..." here. No, I mean everyday contentment, giving life meaning.

I mean, anyone who writes a biography like that is more of a consumer product than a human being. We need more idols who also serve as role models so that this world can become a little bit better.

Don't take me wrong. Michael Jackson is dead. Long live Michael Jackson. Definitely the King of Pop.

Having a home

Everyone calls some place home. Sure, many people are homeless or don't even know exactly where their home is right now. But everyone who is (or can read) this blog has a home. And everyone should be happy about that, because globally speaking, that's not a given. Some, for example, live only in a box like the one shown in the photo. But the most important home must be our own body. Always well cared for, looked after, carefully treated, and kept in top shape. We only have this one, even if some need one or two "spare parts" from time to time and, if they're lucky, get them.

60% don't wash their hands

Sad but true. Most people in supposedly "clean and tidy" Germany don't wash their hands after using the restroom. Others sneeze into their left hand, only to find themselves hanging from the bus handle a minute later using the same hand. Not to mention people with any kind of contagious disease. Pathogens are easily transmitted through a simple handshake or even by sharing objects.

The simple solution: wash your hands, especially after using public transportation, using the restroom, and contacting sick people, for example. It's remarkable that such a thing even needs to be mentioned. Unfortunately, most people simply don't know anything about basic hygiene.

Seagulls have Ki

At Terrestrial Life Management, TerLiMa, we focus a lot on body and mind. Both body and mind are born of the same Ki. Both originate directly from the universe. In fact, they belong completely together.

There can be no separate view of body and mind. They belong inseparably together. Conventional thinking firmly holds that the body and mind are independent of each other, if they so choose. This is false. False because both stem from the same Ki, come from the exact origin, and being separated from each other would make no sense to humans.

Of course, both mind and body function independently of each other. But only when we can harness both together can Ki fully manifest itself. The photo shows a great deal of Ki gathered together. The seagulls, the river, and even the ships possess their own unique Ki.

The apple

In England, they say, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." In Japan, the same saying is "the plum."
Which fruit is right for each individual is a matter of personal belief. Personally, I stick with the "apple."

According to the Bible, the apple is already the fruit in Christian tradition that can do more than just open our eyes.

For example, New York City is nicknamed the "Big Apple." The Beatles' record label: Apple.

Today, the saying is still recognised, but the meaning is the other way around. If you see a doctor too often, the apples stay away. All they can do is subscribe to some pills.

Super seminar - Super success

Over 700 people, teachers, students, and many visitors, gathered in Aurich for three days over Pentecost for the TAO Super Seminar 2009 at the TAO School Aurich run by Herbert and Christa Bruns (http://www.tao-aurich.de/index.php?section=schule).

Perfect organisation paired with East Frisian spirit and humour made this WCA (World Combat Association http://www.w-c-a.de/) seminar a highlight in the budo, yoga, fitness, and health scene.

Top-class grandmasters demonstrated their knowledge on four mats. Jan Slopecki, 10th Dan Jiu-Jitsu, and Christof Dawidowicz (7th Dan Jiu-Jitsu) travelled from Poland, as did Edgar Bonar and Herbert Bruns, both 6th Dan Jiu-Jitsu, and Gert Gatschke (Karate), all 5th Dan. Another 25 masters from 1st to 4th Dan inspired students of all ages in their disciplines.

Ile Bonar was impressed with her wonderful yoga, while Christa Bruns and Verena Coordes taught their participants aerobics with energy and music. Marc Bonar, 3rd Dan, successfully led a friendly kickboxing tournament on the third day of the course.

A total of 14 theoretical blocks were offered, covering topics ranging from personality development to learning proper etiquette. My personal highlight, of course, was my own seminar leader with the Stop Smoking program http://www.stop-smoking.de/. And I bet there's at least one more non-smoker now... ;-)

Spider plant

Green Lily sounds better than spider plant, according to the English translation "spider plant." These plants are said to have the most amazing properties.

I'll name a few. And they're actually true. They purify the indoor air of various toxins from furniture, for example.

They're almost "indestructible," meaning that if they get too little or too much water, spider plants survive better than other houseplants.

They're inexpensive to buy. You can get them for as little as three Euros. You can also ask someone for a cutting, put it in water to take root, and then put it in the pot.

It's not only scientifically proven but also common knowledge: flowers lift the mood and create a positive indoor climate.

The Mental Clutter

There was a time, let's call it "earlier," when I seriously thought I had to get the latest news from any current affairs at least once daily. So, during the hour, turn on the news and listen. Of course, I had all the online news I considered paramount listed in my favourites, and even when I was staying in hotels, I would first turn on the TV to see what the Americans were doing in Iraq, or if there had been an earthquake in faraway South America.

Since studying and using TerLiMa, I've known that such behaviour is unhealthy and harmful. Today, for example, I received a message via my email provider that North Korea could set the world on fire. What nonsense. What an irresponsible headline.

When my eldest son was 5 years old, just before going to bed, he saw me watching the news on TV (which we still had back then). They were reporting on the Iraq War (there were several). He was so frightened by even the briefest glimpse of all those tanks, and it took a lot of effort and love to calm him down.

But the same effect also affects us adults when we're bombarded with this predominantly intellectual garbage.

My tip today is to just switch off. And don't worry; someone will tell you when something significant happens. Besides, this tip, too, isn't orthodox in its understanding and application. It's all about the mix.

Saturday, May 23, 2009, Don Wilson, called "The Dragon"  was a guest in Haltern am See in the Kickboxing Center of the Sports World. With him came his friend and martial arts expert Bernie Willems.

I went with my Budo friend Marco Gevatter and three other Budokas from Bremen to take part in this unique highlight in the martial arts scene. For three hours, Don Wilson showed his first-class knowledge of martial arts and kickboxing. Don, not only 11-time world champion in kickboxing, but also an excellent teacher and seminar leader, knew how to instruct and inspire the participants of the workshop, who came from all over Germany, in a great way.

Bernie Willems translated from English with absolute skill and precision. Don gave an overview of the techniques that had guided him through his own career. In addition, he lectured on his view of real self-defence, which even enriched old hands from the Budo scene and from the security industry with new insights. Personally, I give this seminar the smooth grade of "One". Thanks to Don Wilson and Bernie Willems!

Weight loss aid

Anyone who wants to eat less for a while, whether to lose weight to compete in a certain competition class, or because they want or need to lose fat, knows the challenge of constantly circling the fridge and, like a greedy banker, squinting at the $ bills, here's the chocolate bar.

A good tip is to put a head of washed green lettuce on the table and, whenever the urge strikes, simply snack on one or more leaves.
